Granderson.

So, it's been two weeks. I guess it's time I share how Anderson's birthday went. . . timely, I know.

The day before his birthday we went to the Mets game, and thank goodness they won (no I should say "smmmoked" the Marlins 9-1) and we were able to enter and leave the game with a happy birthday-boy.

Let's Go Mets!

He's Six, so he's Sassy now.
A precious family photo with my boys at the game
And another
And anoth. . . I give up.

But Daddy gets one!
our seats were amazing
Anderson really had a blast.

Rowan? Meh, not so much.

"Good game, good game, good game, good game"
Oh, did I say Anderson had a blast? Ahem. I meant Granderson! Happy Birthday, Buddy!

a tale of two cities.

Once upon a time, there were two executives on their way to work in the big city:

Meanwhile, back at home the two country mice were tucked under the covers nursing their stuffy heads.
And that is the end of our story for today.

Five!

On Sunday, our first little baby officially became a boy. Gone are the days of toddler-hood and "preschooler" and having age as an excuse for bad behavior (oh, he's little). He's officially a five-year-old. A school boy. And one who had a very strong opinion on how he'd like to celebrate his arrival at this new milestone: with a surprise party.  How exactly does that work? A surprise party by request. Well, I'll tell you how.
We lied.

All week long, Andy kept asking us who was coming to his birthday party, and we would respond, "what party?! you celebrated with your friends at the end of school, and you celebrated at camp with cupcakes".
See said cupcakes here.
Then, on the day of his birthday, we told him that his best friend, Annemarie, and Mum-Mum and Papa were coming over at 3pm to have cake with us. But first, we were going to get pizza at the pizza place as a family.

And that's where:
SURPRISE!
Gotcha, baby! He was so surprised and so happy! It was the cutest thing ever.

With Annemarie.
Looking way too old for me to handle.
Our accomplices.
Reunited!
Make a wish!
Yes, he requested Doc McStuffins. . .
Tasting his cake (after crying because the waiter served Rowan first and he was supposed to get the first piece)

Happy Birthday, Anderson! May this year be your best one yet!
We LOVE you!!

April 24, 2013

does this look familiar?

Are you starting to recognize the inside of our doctor's office just from the number of times you've seen it on here? Yep, we were back again this morning. And we were the talk of the office! As we walked through the halls the nurses all asked us, "Are you the bite?" "Is this the bite?" Shamefully I nodded yes, yes we are "the bite." One of my children is an animal, and one is a piece of meat.
Here's the meat. If you can call him that. I mean, he's pretty scrawny. If he had gone for Henry, at least I could understand it.

So, by now, you're probably figuring it out. Rowan bit Andy. But not only was it a bite. It was a bite that broke the skin. The kind that requires a doctor's visit. Are you kidding me???? Andy looks all smiles here, but between his flair for the dramatic, and the fact that it probably did hurt quite a bit, there was much histrionics that spanned over the course of an hour.

I took him to a "special" lunch to reward him for the trauma he endured. We went to Dunkin' Donuts,  and he got to pick whatever donut he wanted. And sure enough, he picked the grossest, stickiest, most unhealthy looking one he could find.

And he ate every. last. bite.

And then there's this guy. The doctor called it a "Classic Case of Middle Child Syndrome."
So, he got some special one-on-one time with Mommy today, too.  We went for a walk to look at all of the pickup trucks in the neighborhood.

And we went to the playground for a long time, where he chose to play on the toy that could have been in our backyard.

And everyone lived happily ever after.

april fools.

Yesterday for April Fools' Day, Andy started the pranks first thing in the morning by putting a dinosaur in the fridge to surprise me. Something he apparently had been planning for a month. So I got him back later in the day! I put tissue paper in his slippers so they felt too tight, I gave him his sandwich in a bowl instead of on a plate (that one failed, he didn't even notice), and my creme de la creme -- when he opened the lid on the toilet he saw:

Gotcha!
