recovering.

We had a great long weekend that included seeing family, friends, and some fantastic poolside time spent together just the four of us. We are so grateful to the men and women that serve our country and make weekends like this possible!

Here are just a few pics, though I didn't take nearly as many as I normally do:

Rowan ended his first pool party by passing out with his pants off, puke on his shoulder, and a maraca in his hands -- all signs of a great weekend, indeed!

so happy together.

It's Friday. . . and around here, that means PIZZA! The boys are working hard in their kitchen while mommy is getting an early start on the day in hers:

Happy Friday to you!

progress.

I'm coming along on this beach blanket quilt! Summer is almost here!

May 23, 2011

we saw the sun briefly. it still exists.

The sun came out for a few hours this weekend -- after 8 days of rain -- and it just as quickly went back into hiding and hasn't been seen since. Luckily, we were able to enjoy the short moment of sunshine at the beach -- and have a picnic! How was your weekend?

time to freshen up the wardrobe

Ever since the baby was born, I have basically worn the same black shirt and jeans every day. I have multiples of both the shirt and the jeans, which is necessary, since I get puked on multiple times a day, as well as touched with boogers, peanut butter, oatmeal, formula, and other disgusting things that smell really badly. I guess that's how I ended up in this rut in the first place. The black shirt hides a lot, it's easy to wash, and it cost me next to nothing in the first place. At the same time, I think it's time to do something about my uniform when I have been in recent conversations with Andy such as, "Mommy, where you black tirt?" (on a day that I wasn't wearing the black shirt), and today's, which was even better: "Mommy, what you wearing? You wearing a black tirt? You Loooooove black tirt!"

Note the lint and snot already adorning today's version

When are we going shopping?

3.6 miles

Today the boys and I went for a walk to Dunkin Donuts all in the name of iced coffee. I had no idea the walk was going to be as long or as uphill as it was. Round-trip it was 3.6 miles, to be exact.  I cannot imagine I will be doing it again soon. I am exhausted.
Happy Friday!

A new project.

Nothing like a good deadline to get me moving on a project. So I've decided now that the playroom is under control (I'll post some pictures soon -- once the finishing touches are in place), I'm going to start making something that will be fun and cute for here:

Note: that is not me in the background

I'm going to try to turn this:

into an awesomely cute and girly beach blanket quilt.  Because everything, no seriously everything, in this house is either blue, green, grey or brown -- with the occasional splash of yellow. It's so boring! So in order to keep myself from crying again when I open up the girl's section of the Pottery Barn Kids catalog (yes, I have cried), I have decided to infuse my life with as much pink (especially hot pink) as I can. I never appreciated pink until having a house full of boys. I never even liked pink. Now I'm addicted. I mean, I'm not wearing the word "pink" across my ass, but pink is like a breath of fresh air in my sea of dude-dom.  So my goal is to get this pink beach quilt done in time to add some much-needed girliness to our {my} summer.

What projects are you working on for summer?

He's just big boned.

I took Rowan to the doctor yesterday, and while he is perfect in every way. . . he's a little on the, shall we say, "chunky" side. As in, everything about him is in the 25th percentile, but his weight is in the 50th.  As in, he weighs 19 lbs., 2 oz! But I won't let anybody call him that dirty f-word {fat}. They just have to accept he is my big-boned baby. Even if he wasn't big-boned last month. . .

Our Sweet and Happy Chunky Monkey

the weekend.

This weekend Tom drove me to Fort Greene, Brooklyn, to visit the Brooklyn Flea. I totally forgot to take pictures, but we did manage to have our first lobster roll of the season! If we ever have time, I'd love to go back with you - it was so much fun! Tons of vintage clothes, furniture and artwork.  And the neighborhood around the Flea is really fun, too. I just have to make sure we have a chauffeur, because I am way too afraid to drive there myself!!!

For Mother's Day, the boys pampered me with presents and we went out to dinner with Mom & Dad to a restaurant here in town. It was a beautiful day! Hope your day was beautiful, too! I can't wait to hear all about it! Talk to you soon!

So, here's the deal.

We are fiiiiiinally getting around to hanging some things in the play/guest room. Tom stayed home today and while he is out buying the hardware we need, I am making the preliminary layout for the pictures. I used newspaper for some of the heavier items: the A is actually this A from anthropologie, the R is a wooden R I got off of Etsy from this shop, and the shape in the upper right corner is the eyan elephant (made of cardboard) from rock, paper scissors -- we spray painted it green. I still need to get frames for a few of the items, so try to imagine white or brown frames on most of the stuff that is unframed (except the kite, which may or may not stay). Do you think everything is a bit too high? That's my initial reaction, but I'm not sure. . . what do you think?

Also, try to send some good thoughts to my very sick little peanut resting on the couch. He has a 103 degree fever and has the cutest (but very sick sounding) raspy voice. Talk to you soon! Hope you had a great day yesterday!

me

Well, here we go.

I guess this means I have a blog? Let's see how long we can keep this up.
