July 12, 2013

the fourth of july.

If you asked me to guess how long ago the fourth of july was without consulting a calendar, I'd tell you about a month. But it wasn't.  It was only 8 days. How is that???

For the fourth of july, we started the day at the town's parade and finished with the postponement of fireworks yet again. . .you guessed it. . . (let's just say it all together now) because of the fog. But we wore our red, white and blue matching outfits and looked cute in the sun, which, incidentally, was out for the entire day. It wasn't until around 6 p.m. that the cool, rolling mist slowly moved in, and with it an ominous feeling of deja vu that our fireworks show would be postponed yet again.
Brothers in their red, white and blue.

Henry working hard. He was our designated flag-taster for the day.

Captain America, himself.

All of us.
'Merica!
Anticipation is building for Rowan!

Andy? Not so much. Here he is getting grumpier and grumpier as the temperature rises and the wait starts feeling long.
In fact, when a woman standing next to us asked him how he liked the parade he told her, "I hated it."
(Sound of my hand smacking my head). As you'll see, he really did end up enjoying himself.

Here we go!

Still giving stink face.

And then.  . . wha?!?!? He snaps out of his funk and he's the Grand Marshall!

Lunch on Water Street. Can I start you with a drink? Why, yes. Yes, you can. Quickly.

There must be a bloody mary in front of me to make me smile this much.

Sweaty guy.

Three more sweaty guys.

Back at the house tossing bean bags. Tom looks like he's pretending in his mind it's spring weekend in college.

Gently playing with Papa Russ' planes.

Andy getting a lesson in keeping a kite in the air from the Kite Whisperer.

But no amount of Whispering can keep Rowan from letting go of that string. And soon, the kite was wrapped around a tree, somehow still flying on its own. A 4th of July miracle!

So, what are you up to this weekend? We have a surprise party to throw. For our five year old. Per his demand request. I'll let you know how it goes!
